Week 38

You know what they say about a watched pot? I’m starting to empathize. Friday’s OB appointment was mighty exciting — I measured 4 cm dilated, 80% effaced, and Baby was in 0 position…which, as the doc told us, meant it could be anytime!

We spent Friday evening finishing the nursery, convinced that our sweet little one would arrive that night. We woke up Saturday certain that this was the day. I took it easy on the couch while amazing Adam cooked and cleaned and grocery shopped. And by the end of the day: still no contractions. Not a single one!

Nana Kay and the Russells return from their fabulous adventures out West tomorrow — and we’re headed back to the OB on Tuesday…so all systems will be go very soon! I know we’re still 9 days away from our official due date, so we surely shouldn’t be impatient. (If anything, I need to be counting my blessings that hopefully labor will be shorter and easier since we’re already this far along.) BUT, we sure can’t wait to meet this sweet little baby!

We’ll keep you updated — and thanks so very much for the endless prayers.

Here’s a round-up of Week 38:

Baby’s size: Averaging 7 pounds and 21 inches — but we’ll know for sure soon!

What’s keeping Baby busy: Ready to roll anytime now, our little one is using these last few days to shed the skin-protecting vernix (a white protective coating that has covered him or her in the womb). Baby is also still quite busy, digging little feet and elbows into my side in the evenings.

What’s keeping Mom and Dad busy: Putting the finishing touches on this adorable space….

The newest addition to the nursery is the ABC collection, hand-painted by some of our nearest and dearest. We have a few letters left to do…but we thought we’d wait to see if we have a little guy or gal, and fill in peach or green as fun accents. I should have snapped a closer shot so you could see all the beautiful designs and patterns — will do as soon as we have the whole alphabet complete!

Adam removed the closet door so we could utilize the wall space to the right of the crib. When closed, a simple white curtain panel hides all the chaos inside the closet.

We finally found a set of baskets to hold all the diaper goodies on the changing table! The mirror is from my sweet Nana Burton’s home, and the growth chart is made of reclaimed wood from Dad and Margie’s Minnesota neighborhood! Lots of sentimental treasures throughout.

Cravings: Water. Between the July heat and this growing baby, I’ve been incredibly thirsty these past few weeks. Fruit is still high up on the list…especially peaches!

Struggles: Mobility. Baby has definitely “dropped” — so although I’m grateful that my lungs now have a little more room to breathe, my walking is starting to resemble a waddle and getting in and out of bed is quite the production.

Joys: Our loved ones are the greatest. We’ve been getting encouraging texts and emails and phone calls all week. Somehow folks know just the right words to say…and we appreciate them immensely.

Have a wonderful week!

Sweet Lauren, I’m so glad Erin and Haley got to spend some precious time with you before the little one arrives. I am also excited for my little adopted great-grandchild to get here. Hopefully it will be in the next day or two and everything will go easy.

Take care of your sweet self and get some rest,
    Love you sooo much
    Nana Pat
