Week 37

This past week was a tribute to the to-do list. Sweet Adam and I devoted our entire Fourth holiday to prepping for Baby Eberle — and as of last night, I think we’re feeling ready. Or as ready as we can be considering we have no clue when this little tot will make his or her grand appearance!

I explained to someone this weekend that waiting on labor feels a bit like planning a wedding without knowing the wedding date. You spend months and months sharing your news, making decisions, and coordinating family, but you aren’t quite sure which day you’ll actually head to the church. The best you can do is have your dress ready and your groom on call.

Some highlights of this week:

Adam installed the carseat (and he’s taking it to the fire station on Wednesday for approval!)…

Pinot got his first collar (since we don’t trust him not to sneak out once he’s no longer our top priority)…

We packed the hospital bags (and likely overdid it — we’ll go lighter for Baby #2)…

And I got the chance to indulge in a prenatal massage and pedicure! Dad and Margie gave me a generous gift card for my birthday — and I’ve been saving it up for a little spoilin’! Although I forgot to take a picture of the massage table…it was designed specifically for big baby bumps, leaving a support hole so I could literally lay on my stomach throughout the massage. Heaven!

We didn’t have much progress at last Friday’s OB appointment. The nurse practitioner measured me at 2+ cm, but wouldn’t quite commit to 3 cm. We’ll go back again this Friday. In the meantime, THIS website is cracking us up: www.haveyouhadthatbabyyet.com.

Here’s a round-up of Week 37:

Baby’s size: Somewhere around 6.5 to 7 pounds and 20.5 to 21 inches

What kept Baby busy: Sweet baby fat is still accumulating on the little guy or girl, “forming kissable dimples in those cute elbows, knees, and shoulders, and adorable creases and folds in the neck and wrists,” according to What to Expect. Baby is also pivoting from side to side, giving us little bottom presses on the left, then right, then left side.

What kept Mom and Dad busy: Adam has been training his team at work so that they’re prepared to cover for him while he’s out on paternity leave. He’s a pretty priceless asset, and a few folks mentioned at the Vanguard shower how much he’ll be missed. On my work front, I’ve been trying to wrap up a few projects as quickly as possible so I don’t leave any of my clients empty-handed when we rush off to the hospital. Thankfully “going into labor” is likely the best excuse for missing a deadline that I’ve ever tried — and I have a feeling they’ll be flexible.

Cravings: Tomatoes, fruit, and sweet baby snuggles.

Struggles: Embracing the unknowns. I’ve been reading every book and blog I can get my hands on to try to prepare for the big day and the big weeks following. I’m an over-researcher by habit, and have been comforted by reading about all the potential ways labor and delivery can go. That said, the goal is to have a happy, healthy baby and I’m definitely keeping my eye on that prize.

Joys: The countdown clock at the top right of the blog (if you’re viewing this from your computer). See that number? We’re almost there!

There are no words to describe the anticipation of my baby (Lauren) having a baby! This Nana-to-be is more than ready. I think I’ll use this blessed event as an excuse to shop for a few new outfits.

Well, sounds like things are going well, and sooooo glad there is no progress since I am 2000 miles away, by car!
    love you both!
