Week 36: Is your hospital bag packed?

….neither is ours! But today marks 37 weeks and sweet Baby Eberle is officially full term! At our OB appointment last Friday I was 2 cm dilated, 70% effaced, and Baby was in -1 position. So, as the doc told us — it could be days or it could be weeks. We return this Friday for another check — but in the meantime, we’re trying to wrap up projects at work and at home so we’re all ready when it’s go time!

Of course, this post is titled Week 36 because I can’t miss an opportunity to update you on all the excitement of the last week.

On Thursday Adam’s co-workers threw us a wonderful shower! I forgot to take pictures, but it was a sweet celebration with a great turnout. Although Adam has been at Vanguard for 5.5 years, this was my first time meeting many of his team. What a great group! They clearly adore Adam — and it was so kind for them to share our joy.

Dad and Margie arrived to town Thursday afternoon and we indulged in a little down time before the weekend’s festivities. Ashley and Bryan Leath drove in Saturday morning and we all headed to Winston-Salem for the most glorious baby shower I could have imagined. Mari-Jo hosted the big event at her gorgeous farm, and she, Erin, Haley, and Mom worked for weeks to bring the beautiful bee-themed shindig to life.

I have another post coming up soon about all the handmade treasures we received this weekend (including two incredible quilts and a reclaimed-wood growth chart!!!), but in the meantime, let’s just say we were absolutely humbled by the distance folks traveled to help celebrate our little sweetie — Dad and Margie from Minnesota, Julia from D.C., Ashley and Bryan from Birmingham, Julie and Audrey from the coast, and the list goes on… The day reminded me a lot of a wedding: You have all your favorite people in one place, but hardly enough time to hold a full conversation with each of them. We’ll be treasuring the warmth of Saturday for many, many years to come.

Here’s how we did during Week 36:

Baby’s size: Averaging 6.5 pounds and 20.5 inches, Baby’s biggest job is growing!

What’s keeping Baby busy: All of Baby’s systems (circulatory through musculoskeletal) are ready to roll — so Baby is busy practicing and practicing…sucking thumbs, inhaling and exhaling, blinking, and swaying from side to side.

What’s keeping Mom and Dad busy: We checked some major items off the big to-do list last week — picked a pediatrician, washed our first loads of baby laundry, and assembled the sweet swing, stroller, and pack-n-play. We’re staying put over the Fourth of July holiday, so we hope to wrap up the rest of the list, and maybe indulge in a little pool time too.

Cravings: We want to see that sweet, squishy face! Meeting our little one is practically all we can think about these days!

Struggles: I really hate to complain, given that I’ve had such an easy pregnancy, but goodness — carrying a baby isn’t a piece of cake. I’m sure missing my mobility these days, especially as the extra fatigue (and the heat!) kicks in. I’ve switched up my morning treadmill routine for an evening walk around the neighborhood…and last night even asked sweet Adam to tie my shoelaces. Ironically, the nesting instinct has kicked into high gear — but although I daydream about cleaning my baseboards, I sure can’t fathom crawling around on the floor. God has a sense of humor, for sure!

The baby shower was glorious. My calendar is clear now and we are ready to see that precious baby. What a blessing! I can’t describe the many feelings I am experiencing as MY BABY, Lauren, prepares to have a baby. God is good!
