If you’d asked us last Friday what we’d be up to in a week, we’d say with confidence that we’d be snuggling our precious newborn. But, here we are: waiting. Just like the rest of the world. That said, this week wasn’t without some excitement.
Tuesday’s check-up was quite the experience. My blood pressure was slightly elevated, so the OB recommended inducing on Wednesday. I have to admit our hearts skipped a beat at the thought of becoming parents the following day…but we just didn’t feel like there was enough of a medical reason to induce. So, we turned him down. The doctor ordered an ultrasound and blood test (which both came out perfectly) and we went home feeling a bit disappointed, but confident in our decision.
The rest of the week was spent waiting and walking the neighborhood, hoping gravity and nature would work their wonders. Thursday Erin and Haley came to town to help distract their stir-crazy sister. My mom bought us pedicures and we did a little baby shopping.
Last night I made this recipe, given that eggplant has a reputation for starting labor. Unfortunately no go. (At least it was tasty.)
Today we returned to the doctor at 9 a.m. with no clue what to expect. (I still haven’t had a single true contraction.) Thankfully, my blood pressure was perfect and we passed the non-stress test with flying colors. I’m still measuring 4 cm dilated — so today’s OB encouraged us not to labor long at home once contractions do start. They still think it’ll be a fairly quick ride!
If the little bundle doesn’t arrive over the weekend, our next appointment is Tuesday morning (our due date), and she suggested we come with our suitcases.
Here’s a round-up of Week 39:
Baby’s size: Officially the size of a watermelon, probably somewhere between 6 to 9 pounds and 19 to 21 inches!
What’s keeping Baby busy: In these final days Baby’s brain is still developing rapidly, meaning he or she is getting smarter by the minute.
What’s keeping Mom and Dad busy: Doctors appointments were our social life this week. Hopefully we can get out and about this weekend…and maybe indulge in a few extra movies and naps. I know we’ll be craving this quiet down-time in just a few short days.
Cravings: Fruits (peaches, watermelon and strawberries)…and that’s about all. My appetite has really decreased in the past week or so. I think this bump just has me feeling full!
Struggles: Patience!
Joys: Precious going home outfits (& changing pad covers) for Baby Girl or Baby Boy Eberle…
Keep us in your prayers this weekend as we wait for our sweetie. And thanks, as always, for the endless love these past 39 weeks. We’re mighty blessed!

That watermelon dress sure is appropriate considering you’ve craved it so often! Of course, the crab is very summer-appropriate too. I hope you get to enjoy your weekend and rest up!
I am soooo excited!
