Our big excitement this week came in the form of a FedEx delivery: Baby’s crib is here! I have to admit, something about seeing my amazing husband assemble our little one’s bed sure gets these tears a-flowin’. Some days, even with my growing belly, Baby’s arrival still seems surreal. But it’s experiences like this — seeing a precious crib in our home — that reminds me how blessed we are.
Here’s a rundown of how we’re doing at Week 21:
Baby’s size: 12.5 ounces and 10.5 inches
What’s keeping Baby busy: Now that Baby has mastered swallowing, this week’s formation of taste buds certainly sweetens the deal. Baby’s eyebrows and eyelids are fully developed…and although the eyelids are sealed, Baby’s eyes are active. The books say this little one is sleeping 12–14 hours a day, and it seems as if Baby already has a bit of a routine. Morning wiggling usually occurs around 9 a.m.-ish (especially when Mommy schedules conference calls), “Happy Hour” wiggling starts up around 5 p.m…and then the major wiggling occurs from about 9 to 11 p.m. This is when Daddy can usually feel the kicks.
What’s keeping Mom and Dad busy: We’re slowly checking things off the big Baby to-do list. Adam sold two pieces of furniture on Craigslist this week, started researching wills, and spent the wee hours of last night building Baby’s crib. I’ve signed us up for the rest of our prenatal classes, and have reached out to some of my favorite recent mommies to find out their recommendations for all the latest baby gadgets. A few weeks ago Adam and I took a stroll through Babies-r-Us…and wow…strollers and monitors and car seats, oh my!
Cravings: Two newbies this week — tomatoes and chocolate. (Not together, of course. Although I guess I’ve never tried it…maybe third trimester?) No really…strawberries are still high on the gotta-have list, but I’ve added their plump partners, tomatoes. (Naturally another non-season choice.) And chocolate — well, chocolate waited 20 weeks to come knockin’….and now I just can’t say no! Of course, I’m trying to moderate. Tomatoes are easy — I’ve had a tomato sandwich for lunch each day this week….and today I enjoyed an afternoon snack of cherry toms with balsamic glaze. Chocolate, on the other hand, has been a bit trickier. I’ve found that a cup of steamy hot cocoa often curbs the craving, as does a small handful of semi-sweet dark chocolates. We try not to keep cookies or candies in the house, but the bag of those baking morsels has been slowly shrinking (and thankfully Adam isn’t asking questions). My other quick trick? Pudding. I did a little couponing and scored us some free boxes of instant fudge pudding. Add two cups of skim milk…stir two minutes…ta da!
Struggles: Another week of no complaints! My energy is sky-high and when the weather permits, I’ve been ditching the treadmill to do outdoor intervals. Side sleeping still isn’t my cup of tea…but I’m slowly getting there — and Adam sweetly reminds me if he catches me on my back in the middle of the night.
Joys: It’s feeling mighty real! Between the “bump,” the crib, the classes, booking our Babymoon (more details to come), etc….it’s finally feeling like we’re making our way to July. I have a feeling these next four months will fly by!

I sure am glad I finally have time to read this blog. Boy, how exciting. Cannot wait to see you two next week!!! Three!
