Week 19

This week was a hectic one for us! Between work, bible studies, lunch meetings, running classes, and a business-related trip to Winston, we’re both feeling fairly ragged and are really looking forward to the quiet weekend ahead.

As soon as we announced our pregnancy, words of wisdom started rolling in. Sarah, a precious friend from my time in Birmingham, is Mommy to an amazing 17-month-old little boy. One of Sarah’s greatest pieces of advice was for me and Adam to truly savor these last few months as a two-some. It’s easy for us to wish this time away — we’re so anxious to meet our little one this summer. But Sarah reminded us to treasure the quiet, the freedom, and the beauty of a lazy Saturday morning. Everything will change when we become three…so we’re hoping to embrace Sarah’s brilliance and maybe even sleep in!

Here’s a rundown of how we’re doing at Week 19:

Baby’s size: A big ‘ole 6 inches, and 8.5 ounces — the size of a mango!

What’s keeping Baby busy: The books tell me Baby is working on developing his or her five senses this week…but it feels to me that this little one is simply focused on flips and turns and tumbles. We have an active one, that’s for certain!

What’s keeping Mom and Dad busy: We booked our first baby class, Preparing to Parent, at the hospital where we’ll deliver. I’m a visual learner…so the idea of hands-on baby training versus reading What to Expect (although I’m doing that too!) is sure appealing. We also have big plans to start working on the nursery this weekend. We have a few DIY projects planned…and certainly some shopping to do too.

Cravings: Oats! Isn’t pregnancy strange? I can’t get enough oatmeal, cereal, and (yum!) oat-based baked goods. Thankfully, I found a healthy(-ish) way to satisfy that desire: Two Ingredient Cookies, featuring two old bananas and a cup of quick oats — plus any other “extras” you desire, like walnuts, cinnamon, or even cranberries. They aren’t pretty…but they sure do the trick. Plus, I love the blogger’s sentiment that even if you end up eating half the batch (oops!), all you’ve consumed is one banana, half a cup of oats, plus a handful of walnuts and/or berries. Not bad!

Struggles: No complaints this week! I’ve experienced a few bouts of round ligament pain — mainly during my morning shower or if I’ve been in the car for a while — but it’s completely normal, and fairly minor at this point.

Joys: We’ve started planning our Babymoon! Yes, Adam and I are indulging in a few days of quality time…and maybe even a little pampering…before Baby arrives. More details to come!
