Wow! 24 weeks down — only 16(ish) to go!
This week we went to the OB-Gyn for our 24 week check-up and met with Dr. Miles. Our practice has eight OBs, and since we don’t know who will be on call for deliveries when our wee one is ready to arrive, we’ll cycle through all the doctors during our pregnancy so we’ll have the chance to meet each of them.
Baby measured beautifully at the appointment, with a heartbeat of 155. There’s an old wives tale that you can determine gender based on heartbeat — 150+ meaning a girl; less than 150 meaning a boy. Of course, we know our little one likes to keep us guessing…we may have had a 155 this week, but at our last appointment, the heartbeat was 143. Go figure!
We’ll head back again at Week 28 — third trimester! Til then, our job is to grow, grow, grow!
Here’s a rundown of how we’re doing at Week 24:
Baby’s size: About 12 inches and 1.25 pounds!
What’s keeping Baby busy: Baby’s skin is becoming more opaque, and small capillaries are giving it a sweet pink glow.
What’s keeping Mom and Dad busy: Adam and I have been reading, reading, reading, and reading. Whew! Baby’s mattress was also delivered this week, so our focus is back on finishing the crib. Since we hear we’ll go through sheets frequently, we’re likely going to register for a few sets of simple ones. BUT, I’ve decided I’m going to try to make Baby’s crib skirt and curtains myself (thanks to a few tutorials from Pinterest). I’ll be sure to keep you updated — this should be an adventure!
Cravings: Strawberries (of course) and now fruity popsicles — a standby snack that I’m certain will become a favorite as we head into those humid summer months.
Struggles: Still no real complaints…although I’m starting to get pretty sleepy in the afternoons. Nothing a little nap won’t fix! We know Baby is going through a major growth spurt right now — so that likely explains the extra snoozin’.
Joys: Adam and I took an hour-long walk around our neighborhood this afternoon and I was struck by how blessed we are to live in an area with so many children nearby. It was exciting to hear the laughter of little ones…and to imagine our kiddo growing up with friends close-by.

How exciting!!!
